Economy 10 is a UK multi-rate (time-of-use) electricity tariff that gives about ten cheaper off-peak hours in each 24-hour period. Citizens Advice groups it with Economy 7 as an economy-style tariff often used with storage heaters or other electric heating, and notes that the off-peak hours may be split into chunks through the day rather than one continuous overnight block.

What it means for a home battery

A battery on Economy 10 still follows the same rule as on Octopus Go: charge in the cheap windows, discharge in the expensive ones. The practical difference is the timetable. Supplier help pages show how widely the hours vary. EDF says Economy 10 times are set by the local network operator and can be found on your bill, with an example split across afternoon, evening and night. OVO publishes regional example tables and states that cheaper hours depend on where you live, meter type and daylight saving. Habo does not invent a single national Economy 10 schedule or rate.

Because the cheap windows may be fragmented, check whether your installer can schedule the pack across those slots and whether the peak unit rate still leaves a useful gap after round-trip losses. Many homes comparing storage today look first at smart tariffs such as Go (Go needs an EV charged at home under terms 2.1.3); see best tariffs for battery storage and Economy 7 and a home battery. Run whatever peak and off-peak rates you actually have through the calculator. Habo's offer is an electrician-wired EcoFlow STREAM from £2,499. Join the waitlist.

The name points to about ten off-peak hours per day. Citizens Advice and suppliers describe those hours as often split across the day rather than one overnight block.

No. Hours vary by supplier, meter type and distribution area. Never assume another household's timetable. Check your bill or ask your supplier.

Only if the cheap windows are long enough and cheap enough to fill the pack, and the peak rate is high enough to repay the cycle. Compare it with modern smart tariffs before you switch.
